The timetable
Fast Scans run in seconds. Here's the weekly timetable
Val's full market scan
Twice every week, run by me, not by your phone. Fast Scan is the only scan you ever run yourself. Every Monday, after the Market opens, I will present you with a NEW set of up to 15 Stocks for your consideration and will monitor these during the week. For four Mondays in a row not one company is repeated from the week before, and on the 5th Monday you get the best of those four weeks, each name still having to pass every rule on the day.
Share prices
Prices for the stocks I have chosen are refreshed centrally every trading day, Monday to Friday: one hour after the US market opens, every half hour while it is open, and again as soon as it closes.
Your Fast Market Scan
I keep every Scan under 30 seconds.
The full market scan runs twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays.
The screener always shows you the date of the last full market scan and the date of the last price refresh, so you know exactly how fresh your list is.

What your time buys
Unlimited Scans and downloads while your weeks run
- Scan as often as you like
- Download every list, as often as you like
- Your clock starts on your first Scan, not when you pay
- Save any dashboard for 30 days, at no extra cost
- All 37 finance cheat sheets included
- Extra weeks stack onto the end, nothing is lost
Pause your clock once if life gets in the way
Freeze your access for 1 to 21 days. The paused days do not count and are added back at the end.
- Illness, or looking after somebody who is unwell
- A family emergency that needs all of your attention
- A holiday, or somewhere with no decent signal
- A heavy few weeks at work
- Simply stepping back from the market for a while
Coming back early is easy: press Scan now and the pause ends, with your clock carrying on to your original finishing date.
You will always know where you stand
Your dashboard shows a live countdown. At 95% you get a quiet reminder; at 99% you choose whether to carry on or let it finish. Carrying on needs two taps, so nothing is bought by accident.
Why I scan the market for youTap to openTap to close
Scanning thousands of companies from a phone was slow and could stop halfway. I now do that heavy work centrally, twice a week, and check the result before publishing it. You get the same list faster, and it can never fail in your hand.

What makes Val's Stock Screener differentTap to openTap to close
Free screeners hand you a long list of raw, filtered data and leave you to work out what matters. This screener applies the same fixed standards every time and hands you a short, curated list already narrowed to the ones worth a closer look, the judgement is already built in, not left for you to figure out. I built it after spending hours a day inside free tools myself, hunting through raw results for trades worth a second look. Now that work happens in seconds.
- Fixed written standards, the same fair test applied to every share
- Typically around 15 names, never more than 15
- In your plain local language throughout
- I use it myself every week
- Not financial advice, only an honest starting point

FAQs
How do I add the app icon to my iPhone?Tap to openTap to close
This only works in Safari. If you opened this link from a text message, WhatsApp, or email, please tap the "..." or share icon first and choose "Open in Safari," then follow the steps below.
Tap the Share icon at the bottom of the Safari screen. It is a square with an arrow pointing up.
Scroll down the list that appears until you see "Add to Home Screen." (It's a few options down, not the first one.)
Tap "Add to Home Screen."
Tap Add in the top right corner.
The app icon will now appear on your Home Screen like any other app.
How do I add the app icon to my Android phone?Tap to openTap to close
This works best in the Chrome browser on your Android phone. If you opened this link from a text message, WhatsApp, or email, tap the menu first and choose "Open in Chrome," then follow the steps below.
Tap the three dots menu in the top right corner of Chrome.
Look for "Add to Home screen" or "Install app" and tap it. (Samsung, Pixel and other phones may word this slightly differently.)
Tap Add or Install when it asks you to confirm.
The app icon will now sit on your Home Screen like any other app.
Will the Screener work where you live?Tap to openTap to close
Yes, the Screener will work equally well in Tipperary or Timbuktu; Beijing or Bali; Cork or Cape Town.
The young people's area?Tap to openTap to close
My youngest granddaughter recently opened an investment account and after studying Val’s Stock Screener for a few months, purchased her very first lot of stocks based on what she had seen. She intends to hold them and watch the power of compounding work.
Will it make me money?Tap to openTap to close
I cannot promise that, and nobody honest can. The screener gives you a short list of quality shares that pass fixed, written criteria. What you do next is your decision, and it is not financial advice.
Where does the data come from?Tap to openTap to close
Prices, company size, valuations and the published analyst figures all come from public market data for every share listed on the NYSE and NASDAQ, together with a huge list of special standards made and held privately by Val. These will never be disclosed. Prices for the stocks Val has chosen are refreshed centrally every trading day, Monday to Friday: one hour after the US market opens, every half hour while it is open, and again as soon as it closes.
How many stocks will I get?Tap to openTap to close
Typically around 15, and never more than 15. There is no minimum, so if only nine shares clear the criteria you see nine. Never more than 3 shares from the same sector inside a category.
What happens to allowances I do not use?Tap to openTap to close
Your 5 Fast Scans have no clock, so they simply sit on your account until you use them. Weeks of unlimited scanning do run to a finishing date, and your clock only starts on your first Scan.
How often should I run it?Tap to openTap to close
Scan as often as you like. I run the full market scan centrally twice a week, but a quick Fast Scan only takes a moment and is a great way to check in after any market move.
How do I refresh the app if it looks out of date?Tap to openTap to close
The app should update itself automatically, but if you ever see a scan date or price that looks older than expected, here's how to force a fresh copy:
iPhone/iPad: Open the app from your Home Screen, then pull down on the screen to refresh. If that doesn't help, remove the app from your Home Screen and add it again using the Share button in Safari (see "How do I add the app icon to my iPhone?" above).
Android: Open the app, then pull down to refresh. If needed, tap and hold the icon, choose App info, then Storage, and tap Clear cache. This does not delete your saved dashboards.
If it still looks wrong after that, please use "Ask a question" at the bottom of the page and let me know.
Can I read the page in my own language?Tap to openTap to close
Yes. The first time a language is opened, it may take a few moments to prepare — that is normal, not a broken site. After that, it loads instantly for everyone.
Why do you run a Full Scan?Tap to openTap to close
The Full Scan is the deep pass across the whole market that builds the list. I run it centrally, twice a week, and check the result before publishing it, so it can never fail in your hand. You never need to run one yourself.
What is a category?Tap to openTap to close
Each list is split into 3 categories by company size. Category 1 is smaller companies, roughly $650M to $20B. Category 2 is mid sized, roughly $20B to $100B. Category 3 is the big names, roughly $100B to $500B. Inside any one category you will never see more than 3 shares from the same sector, so the list stays spread out. I do not wish to include the major MEGA CAPS and these are excluded.
Do I need Revolut?Tap to openTap to close
No. Revolut is easy and reliable, and it is one way to trade stock. Apart from Revolut, you can use any trading platform or broker that suits you. One of the reasons I mention REVOLUT is because I use it myself and also because they are about to become a big presence in the USA.
Is there a subscription?Tap to openTap to close
NO! It is pay as you go only. Nothing EVER renews automatically and without permission, and there is nothing to cancel.
Is this financial advice?Tap to openTap to close
No. Val's Stock Screener is an information tool and an honest starting point for your own research. It is not financial advice, and it is not a recommendation to buy or sell anything.
Will I see a good variety of stocks or will it repeat the same lot?Tap to openTap to close
You will see a great variety of reliable stocks. Every Monday, experience indicates that I find between 100 to 180 stocks on a Full Scan that meet my stringent criteria. In order to remove any personal bias in choosing the final 15 shares I then randomly choose up to 15 to present to you. On the first four Mondays of every cycle the names are entirely new: not one company from the week before is repeated. On the 5th Monday I give you the best of the stocks seen over those four weeks, and each one still has to pass every rule on that day. Then the process resumes once more. 15 is the most you will ever see, never a target, so in a weak week the list can be shorter.
Coming next
Shortly I will look at a handful of Exchanges outside the USA and likely build a version for Dividend focussed Investors
Anyone already using the screener gets first look, and a fair discount, whenever anything new does arrive.
